University Symbol and Mascot

Akita International University symbol

The letter ‘a’ of Akita is used to symbolize a cedar tree growing into the future from the green earth, representing global internationalism. The cedar tree is based on the Japanese character meaning ‘people’ and represents young individuals of the University who will become world citizens and contribute to the local and international communities.

Akita International University mascot ONE

The mascot is based on the Akita dog. The color of the dog is green, the same as the color of Akita International University. The origin of the name is the combination of the University being “on the cutting edge and the number one” and the sound of a dog’s bark (“wan” in Japanese).
