“Local Contribution” is one of the three missions (education, research and local contribution) of universities. Each university is engaging in local contribution based on its characteristics, and AIU and the University of Oregon (UO) have different approaches to local contribution. In Akita, AIU is expected to work more on international components of local challenges, and in Oregon, UO is expected to provide more scientific and technical assistance to local businesses. This course explored the history, development, present status and future of local contribution of universities in Akita and Oregon.
