Trademark Registration “Themed House”
We are pleased to announce that “Themed House,” the educational program offered in our student housing, has been officially registered as a trademark by the Japan Patent Office.

What is a “Themed House”?: Building a Living-Learning Community
The “Themed House” is our university’s integrated learning-residential educational model, where multinational students sharing a common theme live together in our student housing, Tsubaki Village. Up to 12 degree-seeking and short-term international students share a living unit within Tsubaki Village.
Rather than just being a place to live, the program aims to deepen cross-cultural and international understanding on a daily basis through planning and participating in shared events and activities. Based on themes set by students or faculty—such as language, culture, food, gender, and well-being—the program strives to create a space where learning occurs naturally. Additionally, every Themed House integrates both degree-seeking and short-term international students.

Contribution to International Liberal Arts Education
This program aims to realize a “Living-Learning Community” based on the following three pillars:
- (1) encourage international and intercultural understanding through shared experience of living together and engaging in common activities.
- (2) contribute to the enhancement of international liberal arts education at AIU through their activities on campus involving non-members.
- (3) develop a model of international liberal arts education in residential settings.
A Learning Community that Respects Diversity
As of the Spring 2026 semester, a record-high eight Themed Houses are currently active on campus. Prioritizing shared learning about common themes, our university has introduced “Gender-Neutral Units,” where students from diverse backgrounds live together regardless of gender. This reflects our emphasis on interaction and learning among members rather than gender separation, and recent surveys have shown high satisfaction rates among participating students.

Our integrated learning-residential educational model is characterized by spontaneous learning that occurs naturally in daily life. With this trademark registration, we will continue to enhance the experiential value provided by the “Themed House” program and further promote the development of a residential environment that fosters international understanding and personal growth for every student.
