Obituary: Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus Hideya Taida

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus Hideya Taida on June 24, 2026.

As a member of the Preparatory Committee established by Akita Prefecture for the founding of AIU, Professor Taida made invaluable contributions to laying the foundation for AIU, including the development of AIU’s basic philosophy, curriculum, and organizational structure. Furthermore, he served as a Member of the Board of Trustees for about 20 years from the university’s opening and made a significant contribution to the development of AIU as a member of the University Management Council, the university’s highest decision-making body.

His achievements throughout his lifetime and at AIU are remembered with the utmost respect.
