| 講義概要 Lecture Summary： | このSOC280の特別講義では、地球上に生きる80億の人々と、その中で「幸運な少数者」には含まれない人々が、その生涯において直面する困難な課題について考察します。信じられないほど過酷な現実を学ぶにつれ、私たちは人類の善性や英知に疑問を抱き始めるかもしれません。しかし、たとえそうだとしても、トンネルの先には希望の光があります。講義ではいくつかの具体的な事例を見ていきます。また、世界で最も豊かな国の一つである日本でさえも、第二次世界大戦の焼け跡からの復興、そして2011年の東日本大震災による東北地方の荒廃からの立ち直りにおいて、国際社会からの支援を受けてきたことを学びます。この講義を終える頃には、一部の政治評論家が説くような地政学的な利害関心としてではなく、80億人一人ひとりの「生と死」により焦点を当てて、国際協力を捉えられるようになっていることを願っています。 In this special class of SOC280, we will think about 8 billion people living on Earth and the difficult challenges that those who don’t belong to the ‘lucky few’ are facing during their lifetime. Learning those incredibly harsh realities, we may start to doubt the good nature and wisdom of mankind. Yet, despite that, there is light of hope at the end of the tunnel. We will look at some concrete cases. We will also learn that even Japan, one of the wealthiest countries in the world, was supported by the international community to rebuild the nation from the ashes of WW2, and also from the devastation of the Tohoku region by the tsunami in 2011. By the end of class, I hope students will look at international cooperation with more focus on the life and death of each and every 8 billion persons, rather than geostrategic interests that some political commentators are promoting. |
