Academic Career Support Center (ACSC)

The ACSC supports undergraduate students who are considering furthering their education at the graduate level. Through consultations, workshops, and guest lectures, the ACSC helps students find the right graduate school or professional graduate school inside or outside Japan across fields and regions.

Support through Counseling

The ACSC provides individual and group counseling on the advantages and disadvantages of entering graduate school, academic planning before, during, and after study abroad, study and living in graduate schools in Japan and abroad, fees and scholarships, graduate school application support, and more.

Graduate Studies Forum

Lectures by guest speakers and workshops are held every semester to offer students the opportunities of gaining a broad understanding of graduate research studies and career paths after graduate/doctoral studies.

Special Lectures

Highly specialized professionals working at the front lines in their fields are invited to talk about their graduate studies, research, and diverse postgraduate career development.

The Center’s coordinating faculty provides the latest information on admissions to graduate schools from different angles.

Partnership with International Graduate School

SOAS University of London in the UK is a top European institution of higher education focused on research in humanities and social sciences in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. AIU and SOAS have partnered since the academic year 2020 to give students who completed an AIU undergraduate program (and who fulfill certain criteria) a “progression route,” or priority admission, to SOAS graduate studies (MA/MSc, taught courses) for one year.

Voice from Students

London School of Economics (UK)
Major: MSc in International Migration and Public Policy

Asuka Goto (Hyogo, Japan)

From the time I enrolled at AIU, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in the field of international migration and refugees, and I also wanted to gain experience living as a minority, so I decided to pursue my studies abroad. I decided on a school of higher education based on its policy-oriented curriculum within the migration studies and its proximity to the area I wished to research for my master’s thesis.

AIU’s interdisciplinary curriculum was extremely beneficial in that it provided me with a broad perspective on international migration from various fields such as anthropology, sociology, and political science, in addition to specialized courses such as “Borders and Human Mobility” and “International Forced Migration Studies”.

Since my second year, I have used office hours of ACSC, to maintain my motivation for graduate school and received advice on selecting a study abroad program and preparing for higher education.

In the future, I would like to be involved in work that contributes to international migration and diversity inclusion.
