AIU is excited to announce that we will be offering the 2021 Summer Program online! For 2021 program details, please see:
Akita International University (AIU) is located in a rural area, ideal for experiencing traditional Japanese culture and rich natural beauty.
The campus is conveniently located 10 minutes by car from the Akita Airport. There are regular buses to the nearby AEON shopping center and JR Yotsugoya train station. Bus schedules and other access information are available on the access page.
The AEON shopping center offers over 150 shops, including clothing stores, a pharmacy, a grocery store, an international foods import store, restaurants, café, a theater, bank, and many other facilities. It is generally open from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm (some places in the mall open from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm).
A large public sports complex is just across the road from the campus. The sports facility includes an all-purpose gymnasium, tennis courts, athletic track field, cycling paths, archery fields, baseball diamonds, and weight training rooms. Personal use of these facilities requires a nominal fee, but AIU subsidizes use by university-sponsored clubs.
Summer Program students are assigned double rooms in Komachi Residence Hall. Each student will have a chance to have a Japanese roommate and/or suitemate(s): a roommate is a student who shares a room and a bathroom, and a suitemate is a student who shares only a bathroom.
Specific room assignments and information about your roommate/ suitemate(s) will be announced upon your arrival. We are not able to provide the information such as name, nationality, and contact address of your roommate/ suitemate(s) in advance. We are not able to offer single rooms except in special circumstances because of limited room availability.
