President’s Statement on the Russian Invasion of Ukraine

The ongoing Russian military invasion of Ukraine is a unilateral attempt to change the status quo by way of force that threatens the safety and security of international society and absolutely cannot be tolerated. Akita International University, which values our shared humanity and humane conduct, is deeply concerned by this situation. Our hearts go out to those whose loved ones have died or who have been injured in this violent turn of events. We also urge the world body of nations to come together in deescalating the current conflict and work urgently towards the restoration of peace.

Additionally, AIU is strongly opposed to any discrimination or persecution of individuals based on their place of birth, nationality, or ethnicity. We are committed to supporting our students, faculty, and staff members with strong relationships to Ukraine and/or Russia to the utmost of our ability so that they do not experience any personal discomfort or interruption to their education and research activities due to this sad situation.
