AIU Faculty Member Hosts Initiative for the Study of Asian Catholics Podcast in Collaboration with National University of Singapore – Dr. Hisako Omori

Dr. Hisako Omori of AIU’s Global Studies Program is the host for Season 3 of the Initiative for the Study of Asian Catholics (ISAC) Podcast Series. ISAC is a collaborative project hosted by the Asia Research Institute of the National University of Singapore.

In this season, Dr. Omori interviews presenters from a May 2023 conference, “More Universal than Catholicism? Mary among Asian Religions,” that was co-organized by the Centre for Marian Studies at St. Mary’s University, Twickenham, London, UK and ISAC. Each episode runs about 20 minutes and they are meant to introduce the rich but little-known field of Asian Catholicism to a non-scholarly audience. Her interviewees include anthropologists, historians, and a performance studies scholar, to give a wide range of perspectives on the topic for listeners of all backgrounds.

Season 3 of the podcast began on 1 October 2023, as part of the second anniversary of ISAC, and is still ongoing as of the time of this post. You can find all of the episodes on the ISAC podcast website or on Spotify at the links below.

Dr. Omori was previously a guest in Season 1, Episode 16 of the same podcast, where she introduced her 2020 book, From Situated Selves to the Self: Conversion and Personhood among Roman Catholics in Tokyo (SUNY Press 2020).
