Housing & Meal Plan

Housing

On-campus housing is 100% guaranteed for J-CIP:A participants. Students will reside in double rooms within a two-room suite in Komachi Residence Hall. Each student may have a Japanese roommate and/or suitemate(s).

However, please note that participants may be assigned to another on-campus residence if there is a room shortage in Komachi Residence Hall.

Specific room assignments and roommate/ suitemate information  will be provided upon arrival. We are not able to provide information such as name, nationality, and contact address of roommates or suitemates in advance. Also, we are not able to offer single rooms except in special circumstances because of limited room availability.

Bedding

A bedding fee is included in the Program Fee.

It includes: Pillow with pillowcase, ‘Futon’* with cover, blanket with cover, and comforter with cover. Pillowcase and covers are exchanged once a week. Additional mattresses and/or pillows are available for an extra cost.

Meal Plan

The program fee includes a meal plan that covers breakfast, lunch and dinner each day at the AIU cafeteria for the entire program period. The meal plan schedule will be shared upon arrival. The Cafeteria will try to make arrangements in order to meet students’ dietary requests or needs. Students who have dietary needs must provide any relevant detailed information in the online application and the separate Dietary Needs Survey.

Dietary Needs

The following ‘Special Meals’ dietary options are available at the AIU Cafeteria.

  • Vegan meal: meal with no animal products (Including eggs and dairy products)
  • Halal meal: meal with no pork, beef, or chicken without Halal certification, no food or beverages containing alcohol
    (including soy sauce and miso, in which alcohol is naturally produced during the fermentation process).
    All cooking equipment and tableware are Halal-specific.
  • Pescatarian meal: meal with no meat (including meat extract)
  • Food Allergy meal: Menus are provided according to the specific food allergy and its symptoms.

Please note that meals available during field trips may NOT be able to accommodate students’ dietary needs.
